What directions can site-specific design take in the era of globalization? How can a work interpret the particular characteristics of the place for which it was created, fully reflecting the genius loci but without forsaking an international dimension? How does multiculturalism influence local context and how, conversely, does the culture of a place evolve in a global scenario?
These are the key themes of Perspective UK 2023, the fourth architecture and interior design forum organized by THE PLAN, which this year is dedicated to the United Kingdom and scheduled for Wednesday, June 28, in London. The event, to take place at Church House, Westminster, in the heart of the city, is a high-level think tank dedicated to architecture, design, and urban planning that offers participants valuable opportunities for networking as well as a busy program of round tables with established professionals and emerging talents in the sector.
Perspective UK 2023 will open at 8:00 a.m. with the panel discussion “Context-Makers: New Directions of Site-Specific Design”, to be held in Bishop Partridge Hall and organized in partnership with Iris Ceramica Group.
This year’s opening session at Perspective UK will be in partnership with Iris Ceramica and will overlap with the Local Cultures in Global Settings event series, organized by Iris Ceramica Group and curated by UAE Modern, with the media partnership of THE PLAN. The centerpiece of this series focused on Dubai is an international contest for architects and designers to create a design to be printed on the group’s ceramic slabs. Entries close July 31.
The opening panel discussion of Perspective UK 2023 in London will revolve around the theme of design linked to the unique characteristics of the place in which a work is located, and the elements that define its geographical and cultural identities. Welcome greetings by Federica Minozzi (CEO, Iris Ceramica Group) and Nicola Leonardi (co-founder and managing editor, THE PLAN).The round table will be moderated by Massimo Imparato (founder, UAE Modern) and the speakers will be Kirsten Lees (Paris managing partner, Grimshaw Architects); Sumaya Dabbagh (founder of Dubai’s practice Dabbagh Architects; Gian Luca Barone (associate director of the international architecture studio Zaha Hadid Architects); Andrew Morrison (director, Hopkins Architects, with studios based in London and Dubai).
The opening panel discussion of Perspective UK 2023 will be live streamed.
