We are proud to announce the Overall winning projects of THE PLAN Award 2021. These were announced within the framework of the Forum on Architecture and Design Perspective Europe 2021, in the wonderful location of Venice Lido.

HOT HEART
CRA-CARLO RATTI ASSOCIATI

Jury Motivation
This project, led by a transdisciplinary team coordinated by CRA, sets a new standard for cities that are prepared to take a leading role in the way we use, store and generate sustainable energy. Hot Heart celebrates an innovative technology that uses the sea as a device for thermal storage. At the same time, it will offer inspiring experiences and participation for the city’s communities, by combining large scale thermal storage infrastructure with “floating forests” that will welcome citizens and tourists. The project aim is to decarbonize Helsinki’s heating system, and will act as a prototype for cities around the world.

MCCULLOUGH MULVIN ARCHITECTS WITH DESIGNPLUS ASSOCIATES SERVICES

Jury Motivation
With its geometric forms and use of local materials, this 30,809-sq. m complex combines student accommodation, a Learning Laboratory, Sports Center, Venture Lab and University Guesthouse. A jury member describes its forms as “timeless.”
