The 28th episode of The Architects Series, a documentary and webinar curated by THE PLAN for Iris Ceramica Group, is dedicated to Grafton Architects. The screening of the documentary followed by a lecture by Yvonne Farrel will take place on April 19 from the group’s showroom in Milan

Grafton Architects is the subject of the 28th instalment of The Architects Series, a documentary and webinar curated by THE PLAN for Iris Ceramica Group. The screening of the documentary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at Iris Ceramica Group’s flagship store in Milan during Milano Design Week. This will be followed by a lecture by studio cofounder Yvonne Farrell entitled “Finding the DNA.”

Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara

In 1978, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, then recent architecture graduates from University College Dublin, cofounded Grafton Architects in Dublin, Ireland. For over 45 years, they have been committed to creating spaces that promote learning, socialization, and environmental sustainability. Both professors at the Accademia di Archittettura, Mendrisio, Switzerland, they have completed major projects all over the world, earning their studio a leading international profile.

Grafton Architects’ projects from recent years include The Marshall Institute, Lincoln’s Inn Fields, for the London School of Economics; City Library Parnell Square Dublin with Shaffrey Architects; the headquarters of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) with OMP architects in Dublin; The Town House Building, Kingston University London; The School of Economics for the University of Toulouse 1 Capitol; and Institut Mines Télécom University Building, Paris Saclay.

Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara have won numerous awards for their work, including the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture and the Pritzker Prize in 2020, and the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture (the Mies van der Rohe Award) in 2022. In 2018, they were curators of the Venice Architecture Biennale, for which they chose the theme Freespace. Grafton Architects also won the 2016 RIBA International Prize for Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC) in Lima, Peru, and the 2021 RIBA Stirling Prize for Kingston University London.
