Architecture practice SPEECH takes its name from its founders Sergei Tchoban and Sergey Kuznetsov who joined forces to create a versatile, all-round professional outfit on Moscow’s architectural scene.
After graduating from St Petersburg University, Sergei Tchoban went to work in Germany in the 1990s, establishing nps tchoban voss in Berlin in 1995. The practice designed numerous buildings and urban complexes in both Berlin and other German cities.
Sergey Kuznetsov trained in Moscow and in 2003 became partner and CEO of the firm S.P. Project. In 2006 the company changed its name to SPEECH Tschoban and Kuznetsov. Sergey has been Architect in Chief and First Vice President of the Moscow Committee for Architecture and Urban Development since 2012.
SPEECH’s architectural achievements are visibly the fruit of the two partners’ different experience. They successfully design across the full spectrum: from urban district development projects through to the smallest construction detail. They embrace Western materials and technologies but also Russian and Muscovite building traditions of which they have a deep knowledge. The practice is recognised for its rational, efficient approach to every project phase, and for calling in sector specialists when needed.
The multi-purpose office centre along Moscow’s Ozerkovskaya river, the Granatny 6 residential complex near the capital’s central business district, the Grunewald residential complex outside Moscow and the office block on Leninsky Prospekt demonstrate an ability to design and manage all aspects of their brief, from the way their creations fit into context through to the details of interior design.
