Pilkington Optiwhite™ is an ultraclear float glass with a low iron oxide content; almost entirely colourless, it lacks the green tinge of all other glasses. It is available in thicknesses from 2 to 19 mm, can be toughened, bent, screen-printed and mounted in stratified safety form. The colour factor enables this glass to achieve greater transparency and brightness than clear float glass normally ensures; colours seen through Pilkington Optiwhite™ remain true, even in the thickest versions. It is particularly good-looking when used in banisters, balconies, partitions, doors and stairs, especially when the edge of the pane is on show. The high transparency and luminosity are a tangible advantage when it is used on the outer face of glass façades. In its insulating version, Pilkington Optiwhite™ here combines looks with containment of energy absorption, optimising the passive solar gain and the fracture risk due to thermal shock. Other applications are possible in the design world where Pilkington Optiwhite™ uses glass transparency to maximum effect as a furniture material. In showcases the high light transmittance affords a faithful view of the product on display; again, as a mirror base Pilkington Optiwhite™ keeps the colour definition perfectly true.
