Deep Dive Dubai

Exploring an Underwater City

Deep Dive Dubai
By Redazione The Plan -

Labelled as the world’s deepest pool, Deep Dive Dubai is far more than a simple indoor dive experience. The 60-m pool holds 14.6 million liters of water and a vast sunken city with streets, furnished apartments and garages that scuba divers can explore to ambient mood music played through a sound system. A giant tree with sweeping roots spreads down this post-apocalyptic cityscape, adding a pervasive sense of mystery to this dive experience that opened in July 2021.

The entire complex is designed as a giant oyster in homage to the underwater heritage of the United Arab Emirates. Its creation relied very much on Mapei’s most innovative products, especially for waterproofing in the pool and laying the stone slabs and mosaics. Prior to on-site installation, materials tests were conducted and then based on the results - for example the slabs proved to be dimensionally stable and stain resistant - the Keraflex and Keraflex Maxi S1 cementitious adhesives were chosen. For the mosaic sections of the pool, Kerapoxy was selected as this high-performance product ensures waterproof grouting and uniform color even over time. For the inspection areas in the pool sub-structure, it was necessary to use Mapeplan TU S synthetic waterproofing membrane, manufactured by Polyglass (in the Mapei Group) and Idrostop PVC BI BE ME, a waterstop in PVC produced and created in the United Arab Emirates by Mapei Construction Chemicals, a local Mapei subsidiary.

The extent of the construction details and the uniqueness of the structure made it essential to have perfect synergy between the architects and Mapei’s technical
team to ensure Deep Dive Dubai truly is a record-breaking attraction.
