The faucet (tap) “Up&Down” presents two fundamental concepts: an investigation for material with the use of tecnogel for the finish; and the possibility of giving the traditional product new functions, becoming a fountain. TECNOGEL® has a pleasant touch as well as being a very resistant material and can come in different colors, from very bright to the most somber colors, depending on the client’s desire and the ambient. This material encloses all records and the movable parts of products that the user touches in his daily life.
The new function given by the possibility of using it as a faucet as well as a fountain is activated by the rotating of a movable piece in the nozzle, from up to down. Thus the direction of the water stream is altered and moved to the side where it then becomes possible to drink water comfortably. The design brings to this product a synthesis of the mind-set that is brought to all projects. Simultaneously, the Studio uses minimalist and playful designs, where the value lies in the ease-of-use and by the precision of shapes.
The UP & DOWN TAP concept comes from a consideration on the dryness problem and the importance of a measured use of the precious water resource for the survival of the future generations and of the planet. For this reason, the traditional water delivery of the spout is reconsidered, to enable a control on the water flow, in relation to its use. With a simple rotation movement, it is possible to fully open it or reduce it into a “fountain”, to perform simple actions that require a little water, such as drinking and teeth brushing.

Studio mk27, located in the chaotic city of São Paulo, was founded in the early 80’s by architect Marcio Kogan and today is composed of 22 architects as well as several collaborators worldwide. The architects of the team, great admirers of the Brazilian modernism generation, seek to fulfill the difficult task of rethinking and giving continuity to this iconic architectural movement.. The projects of studio mk27 are valued for their formal simplicity, always working with special attention to detail and finishing. Kogan is an honorary member of the AIA (American Institute of Architects), professor at Escola da Cidade, guest professor at the Politecnico di Milano and is part of “The Wallpaper* 150 Famous for 15 Years”. He leads a team of architects who, for the most part, have been working with him for over a decade.Since 2001, when he started a co-creation and cooperative work system at the office, studio mk27 has won more than 200 national and international awards.
