Villa 4P ‒ A concrete Home in the Graz Hills
By Redazione The Plan -

The idea underpinning the Villa 4P design in Graz is that of a house constructed on various levels to follow the natural contours of the land, to a logic reminiscent of ancient Greek amphitheaters, where the stage and the spectators' seating followed the hillside. Just as those amphitheaters stood in enchanting panoramic spots, the outdoor spaces and interiors to Villa 4P, created by the studio LOVE architecture and urbanism, provide a unique view of Graz ‒ the Austrian city with Hungarian influences, where the old town is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. A true spectacle to savor. This home is part of the context, perfectly integrating and connecting with the nearby environment, which it becomes an extension of, naturally, as in the case of the green roof, brought by the surrounding garden.

Materials with strong tactile qualities

Perched on the hilltop and looking out over the valley, the building is shaped by its asymmetric cantilever roof. The main approach structuring the project was to design spaces on various levels, where the building could unfurl spatially, through its rooms and outdoor areas such as its terraces and swimming pool. For this villa, the designers opted for natural untreated materials with a marked tactile quality and strong textures. Playing a central role are in fact timber and exposed concrete, which establish interplay throughout the house. In addition, these are matched with weathering steel at the entrance, used to clad the staircase and the large planters.

Enveloped in vegetation, the main entrance is located at the top end of the property. This section of the home also accommodates the day zone and the kitchen, both with panoramic views of the valley. Another on this floor is the master bedroom, plus en-suite bathroom. Instead, the lower level houses the additional bedrooms for children and guests. The outdoor pool can be reached through a terraced garden ‒ the same that extends onto the roof of the edifice, also making it efficient in energy terms and bringing aesthetic appeal.
