The Marco Simoncelli Misano World Circuit (MWC), named in memory of the motorcycle racer, this year celebrates its forty-fifth birthday. To mark this event, refurbishment of the pits building has taken another step forward as part of the circuit’s general modernization programme. In partnership with VKA Progetti and Trespa, in charge respectively of the concept for the new façade and the high-performance panels, this work is the latest part of modernizing the circuit, which has included resurfacing the racetrack, building new rooms for the pitstop building, noise pollution reduction, clean energy generation using solar panels, construction of new stands, creation of new racetrack usage formats, and an upgrade to the medical center and the entire area dedicated to the flat track. The elevation required cladding in a new aesthetically-harmonious skin, as part of MWC’s upgrades to its safety, energy saving and enhanced comfort, without compromising the circuit’s flexibility and ability to host different kinds of sports events. To achieve this, Pierpaolo Fugali and Luca Gasparini of VKA Progetti reworked the façade, focusing on its extension (200 m in a straight line) and coming up with twin bands of cladding using Trespa® Meteon® panels which, thanks to their versatility, offered an aesthetic performance to match the design concept, inspired by an idea of dynamism in clear reference to Simoncelli. Trespa® Meteon® panels were used in four color versions: red and white to celebrate “Sic” and the circuit’s colors; and grey and black to generate a chequered flag effect. As well as adding movement to the elevation, Trespa® panels were an optimal solution thanks to their technical properties of robustness and resistance to atmospheric agents, color stability, low maintenance and easy cleaning.
