The complex masterfully integrates green space and green technology
The Cofco Cultural and Health Center in Shanghai, China designed by Steven Holl Architects is social hub. Located along the Punan Canal in Shanghai’s Fengxian District the two new buildings of the Cofco Cultural and Health Center integrate a centralized green space. The glass base of the cultural center houses a café, game room and recreation room with views for the participants as well as for the passer-byers. The sustainable strategies utilized include sedum roofs, centralized heating and cooling systems, CO2 monitoring, thermal storage as well as the capturing of greywater and rainwater for recycling - all of which promote well-being. Additionally, the project’s creative use of concrete provides the complex a cohesive charismatic character.
"To work on architecture for culture and health is a social commitment, much needed in our current moment, as we continue to feel the global impacts of the pandemic." Steven Holl
