Silk is a freestanding sink projected and industrialized by 3ndy Studio. The word “freestanding” is for a particular type of silk that can be placed by itself with no needed of other cabinets, supports bases or wall anchors making it the main protagonist of the bathroom. Silk is totally customizable: from the materials - natural or synthetic - to the finishes – smooth or brushed – or in the characteristic element, the belt, that could be made in galvanized metal for a more industrial results or in leather material for an elegant and luxury ambience. Silk is made in two different material variants to meet all clients’ requests. The basic version is made in Solid Surface, a composite material made up of aluminum tri-hydrate and acrylic resin which gives it strength and ductility. It is a non-toxic material, it does not emit harmful volatile compounds, it is not porous, this ensures maximum cleanliness and hygiene. This production process takes place through a semi-liquid mixture poured into a mold. The design was thinkes in order to have as little waste as possible and optimized to avoid wasting material, that is to use a sustainable and green production cycle, which respects the ethical principles of the "circular economy", using the waste from the first processing to obtain the inert material of the second processing. The most precious version is instead made of marble, through 5-axis milling from solid of a monolithic block. In this version, Nero Marquinia was chosen, a fine-grained marble of Spanish origin, characterized by its intense and deep black color interrupted by irregular white veins. Despite being a natural material, it is also practical, in fact it requires little maintenance as it is very resistant to scratches and stains. The feature that makes it unique and innovative is bringing to life an object that is usually made of a material perceived as cold, hard and opaque, that now lives on a new perception, becoming a vibrant, fluttering and almost impalpable fabric, a sensual drapery. Smooth as silk. Silk is surrounded in the central part by a ribbon, made with metal material covered in leather, which tightens it like a belt does with a precious dress, emphasizing its softness, creating a pulsating and live object. The inspiration comes from the great masters of sculptural art such as Fidia with the "lying goddesses" wrapped in a long draped chiton that adheres to the body, glued to the flesh as if to simulate a wet fabric; by Giuseppe Sanmartino from the work "The Veiled Christ", whose veil carved in marble gives an extraordinary effect of transparency and translucency; from the softness of the mattress sculpted by Antonio Canova in the work portraying Paolina Borghese; great masters who were able to give life, warmth and softness to marble.
Marco Mazzetto and Alessandro Lazzari, right after achieving their Master’s Degree at the University of Architecture in Venice (IUAV), established in 2002 the 3ndy Studio in the province of Venice. Since the beginning, the Studio has been interested in planning, researching and implementing architectural projects, involving all the levels of design: from the objects up to the buildings and the urban planning.
Nowadays, 3ndy Studio is a consolidate reality, which proudly boasts several successful projects in Italy and abroad, and which represents a meeting point for skills and personalities. In recent years the Studio has expanded, including new architects, interior designers and product designers to reach all the new targets. Starting from the importance of energy saving in renovation and new projects, getting through the BIM innovation system, 3ndy Studio is always open to new challenges in the Architecture all around the world.
